Our commitment

A sustainable future

At Château Margaux, the unwavering pursuit of excellence is inseparable from a profound humility before nature. Faithful to our land and to those who nurture it, we move forward with dedication and conviction, ever seeking to understand more deeply, to preserve more fully, and to pass on more wisely. This attentiveness to our environment and to the life that surrounds us is naturally bound to a responsibility towards future generations. Under the guidance of the Mentzelopoulos family, our sustainable development efforts were stepped up in 2019 with the creation of a dedicated role and an action plan. Our ambition: to measure our impact, act to reduce it, and safeguard the delicate balance of our ecosystem.

Preserving the land and its resources

Respect for our soils, water, and energy lies at the heart of every decision we make. We strive to limit water consumption, particularly during the preparation of the vinification vats, through reuse and the process optimisation.

In terms of energy, our buildings are being progressively renovated to enhance efficiency, and our electricity now comes from 100% renewable sources. We are also committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, guided by regular carbon footprint assessments and the continual refinement of our practices.

Cultivating biodiversity

The estate harbours a rich and precious biodiversity which we are determined to protect. An ecological assessment carried out in collaboration with the French National Forestry Office (ONF), together with a comprehensive wildlife survey, has enabled us to establish a concrete action plan. The sustainable management of our woodlands, undertaken with a dedicated partner, helps to strengthen this natural equilibrium and encourage life to flourish around our vines.

Innovating for the future

At Château Margaux, tradition and innovation walk hand in hand. We continuously explore new technical solutions to reduce our environmental footprint and to improve working conditions for our teams. This includes the installation of fuel-saving kits on tractors, as well as work organisation practices that diversify vineyard tasks, thereby reducing the physical strain of repetitive movements. We also repurpose organic residues through a local partnership that produces compost which is reused across our parcels. Every innovation seeks to combine performance, responsibility, and the welfare of those who contribute to the life of the estate.

By uniting rigour, responsibility, and humility before nature, we are shaping the future of the estate, true to five centuries of history, and resolutely oriented towards the centuries ahead.
