It is the 1997 vintage where we started to introduce a third selection so that the quality of Pavillon Rouge would no longer be pulled down by a few disappointing lots. The 1997 Pavillon Rouge therefore, benefited from this more rigorous selection and has the same finesse and balance as the first wine, but with les power and complexity. It is perfect to drink today. After a particularly dry and warm start to the year and an early but long, drawn-out flowering, July was dry and hot and August was rainy and very hot, resulting in the threat of disease in the vines. Fortunately, at the beginning of September, hot and very dry weather set in until the end of the harvest. (The picking began on 15th September)
