Our vineyard workers are busy throughout the winter carrying out essential tasks during the dormant season. These delicate interventions ensure a good start to the next growth cycle and prepare the vines for the months ahead.
Pruning is one of the most important tasks: each vine is carefully pruned to regulate its growth, optimise the distribution of future bunches and ensure its longevity. At the same time, other teams are busy making sure the trellis structure is solid, an important process which involves maintaining and replacing stakes and wires as necessary.
Then comes acanage, a delicate operation in which each vine is attached to its stake and the wires, to keep it straight and stable before the soil is lightly ploughed. At Château Margaux, we continue to use vime, a natural, biodegradable, flexible tie that ensures optimal support and is environmentally friendly. This ancestral practice, requiring precision and expertise, illustrates our commitment to sustainable viticulture that respects the terroir.
Through these winter tasks, each vine is prepared and nurtured, ensuring that the balance and excellence of future vintages are maintained.
