Metropolitan Hotel of New York, Breakfast menu, 1859

It’s always an emotional moment when we discover part of Château Margaux’s past.

This menu, which has only recently come to light, is held in the archives of the New York Public Library and dates from 1859.

It was donated by the American collector Frank E. Buttolph.

It is a menu from the iconic Metropolitan Hotel of New York, which opened in 1852. In perfect condition, legible and clear, it is, in fact, a breakfast menu.

Towards the end, after the selection of cold and hot dishes, customers are invited to choose from a surprising list of “breakfast wines”.

We’ll leave you to choose from the wide range of options on offer but strongly recommend you try the Château Margaux 1841 with your breakfast – a bargain at just $3!
