R&D: New container trials for the 2025 vintage

With the 2025 harvest now complete, the grapes have been transferred to the tanks for vinification. On this occasion, and as part of our ongoing commitment to improving the quality of our wines, our R&D team has launched a new container trial for the white wine.
At our R&D center, Blandine de Rouffignac and her team have selected three types of containers to hold a portion of the fermenting must :

– New oak barrels

– One year old oak barrels

– Stainless steel barrels

Over the  coming year, these barrels will be used for the vinification and ageing of the 2025 white wine, following a process similar to that used in our cellars. Through this trial, our team will study the gas permeability of the different containers by measuring dissolved oxygen and CO₂ throughout the wine’s maturation. In addition, several tastings will take place to assess the impact of wood on the organoleptic qualities of our wines.

This rigorous work, combined with Château Margaux’s historical expertise, contributes to the continuous improvement of our processes in the service of wine quality.
